Novascope Demonstrates Scanning LiDAR Technology for Precise Port Air Quality Monitoring.
Mr. Hanlim Lee, CEO of Novascope Inc., introduced a scanning LiDAR-based fine dust monitoring technology designed to tackle air pollution in port areas, offering a more precise and practical approach to air quality analysis.
The technology utilizes a scanning LiDAR system with an infrared light source to measure air quality at altitudes of 20–50 meters, enabling the tracking of pollutant dispersion paths and identification of emission sources. Compared to conventional satellite-based monitoring, this system provides higher precision and delivers stable measurements without the need for solar radiation correction, making it highly practical.
Additionally, the equipment offers 5-meter resolution, allowing environmental elements to be visualized as two-dimensional surfaces rather than simple lines. This capability enables analysis beyond point-cloud data, capturing spatial density and distribution characteristics.
Novascope has recently collaborated with the Seoul Institute to validate measurements against the city’s monitoring network (S-DOT) and AirKorea instruments, further refining the technology to minimize measurement errors.
CEO Lee emphasized, “With policy support, it will be possible to establish demonstration models and develop effective response systems based on quantitative evidence for public complaints.”
Alongside the scanning LiDAR, the AQ-Profiler, designed for precursor gas measurement, also demonstrates a high level of technical maturity and is expected to serve as a key tool for air quality improvement and policy response in port cities in the future.
