Novascope Inc., in collaboration with Pukyong National University and the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER), participated in the CINDI-3 (Cabauw Intercomparison of Nitrogen Dioxide measuring Instruments) campaign, an international air quality remote sensing instrument performance evaluation held at Cabauw, the Netherlands, organized by the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI).
Following previous campaigns in 2009 and 2016, this year’s CINDI-3 aimed to compare ground-based remote sensing instruments from multiple countries to evaluate instrument performance and validate environmental satellite data. Over 30 institutions worldwide, including NASA (USA), Max Planck Institute for Chemistry (Germany), Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy (BIRA-IASB), Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (UK), and LATMOS (France), participated in the campaign.
Pukyong National University, led by Mr. Hanlim Lee, CEO of Novascope Inc., participated with its AQ Profiler, a ground-based remote sensing instrument jointly developed with NIER, from May 21 to June 21. The AQ Profiler is the first domestically developed instrument capable of measuring vertical distributions of atmospheric gases (NO₂, O₃, O₄, HCHO) and aerosols using UV-VIS spectroscopy.
Researchers from Pukyong National University, including Dr. Kyung Park and master’s student Kangham Lee, together with Mr. Daewon Kim from the Environmental Research Institute, conducted observations of nitrogen dioxide, ozone, formaldehyde, and other atmospheric constituents, performing inter-instrument comparison studies.
Participation in this international evaluation is expected to contribute to assessing instrument performance and expanding the utilization of measured air quality data.
